Growing up black is having people constantly want to touch your hair.

Growing up black is having people ask

if you even burn because of your skin tone.

Growing up black is knowing that others won’t stand up for you when you are openly subject to racism.

Growing up black is having people continually asking about your appearance.

Growing up black is having other say to you “you only got that position, because your are black”

Growing up black is having peers tell you that your their whitest black friend.

Growing up black is having people tell you that racism was only bad a long time ago.

Growing up black is being told that your only fast because of your extra chromosome.

Growing up black is experiencing constant racism in sports.

Growing up black is making sure how you speak so you don’t sound “to black”

Growing up black is being told that you aren’t really black because of where you grew up.

Growing up black is having other judge your financial situation.

Growing up black is having people in stores watch your every move.

Growing up black is having others expect for you to only love the same race.

Growing up black is amazing but has NOT always been easy.
